Position Overview

Provide technical expertise, engineering discipline, and daily leadership to ensure reliability of all plant production and processing equipment.  Primary responsibility is to provide and instill, maintenance system discipline, formal problem-solving capability, and delivery of production results to the plant's Operational Units and support areas. Will have indirect Supervisory responsibilities for Mechanics and Electricians.   Executes capital projects and continuous improvement projects. 

Essential Job Responsibilities

Responsible for the reliability, reliability related programs, and reliability related KPIs for production and processing equipment, refrigeration, boilers waste treatment plant, facility maintenance, and seasonal equipment in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.

Participates as a core member of a Packaging Operations Business Unit, responsible for solving problems and driving results in that unit and in key support areas. Include recommending and completing continuous improvement projects oriented toward maximizing equipment uptime.

Acts as the primary resource for technical support.  Interfaces with engineering, production, and maintenance teams.   Maintains consistent communication with maintenance, production and processing to obtain maximum machine uptime and reliability.

Provide engineering technical support and optimization to ensure the reliability of plant infrastructure, including but not limited to:

  • Preventative maintenance programs
  • Predictive maintenance programs
  • Asset management programs and best practices
  • Mechanical and electrical drawings
  • PLC and industrial communication program management
  • Equipment and process standardization
  • General data mining, analysis, and recommendations based on that data
  • Reviews engineering specifications and drawings, proposing design modifications to improve reliability within cost and other performance requirements.

 Additional Job Responsibilities

  • Approximately 25% of responsibilities include completing capital projects as assigned.
  • Performs job estimates, work scheduling and budget control.
  • Back-up for Shift Supervision. Off-shift emergency support.
  • Assists in interviewing and hiring of maintenance workforce
  • Participates in all regular meetings as scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned

 Job Requirements

  • Must have a thorough understanding of failure mode identification and experience with formal root cause failure analysis techniques. 
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of generic problem solving techniques and demonstrated use of Lean/CI tools. 
  • Must have a good understanding of risk based asset management programs and techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to safely work on and around complex, highly automated machinery in a non-temperature regulated environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting, verbal and written communication skills to effectively present information to management, maintenance supervisors, technicians, and operators.
  • Cross-functional demonstrated skills in electrical construction, PLCs, motors, motion control, pneumatics, hydraulics, and general mechanical systems.
  • Demonstrated record of managing capital projects up to $250K.
  • Demonstrated record of managing contractors and consultants.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a proactive manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree in an Engineering discipline. ME or EE preferred.
  • Reliability Engineer Certification (CRE) or equivalent is desired
  • Minimum of four years related, applicable experience with mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience using Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) principles.
  • Experience in food manufacturing desired.
  • Knowledge of Lean or Six Sigma preferred.
  • Solid record of safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Continuous Improvement in an industrial setting.
